Vocal Light Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 5, 2026 Last updated: September 5, 2026 Version: consumer-health-privacy-2026-09-05-v10
This notice explains how Vocal Light handles voice and range information that may qualify as consumer health data under applicable law. It supplements the Privacy Policy. Vocal Light is a music-practice tool; this notice does not classify every pitch estimate as health data or make the App a medical service.
Vocal Light is operated by Mark Marez. “Vocal Light,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of the Vocal Light mobile application (the “App”), Site, and support channel.
1. Consumer health data the App processes
When you choose or save a voice category or comfortable range, or when you request a microphone-based practice feature, the App may process:
- Live voice audio held temporarily in memory;
- Estimated frequency, pitch, note name, octave, cents, timing, confidence, and stability;
- Estimated vocal-range and note-shape information;
- A comfortable low note, high note, or vocal-range category you select or save; and
- On-device inferences needed to produce the singing-practice display you request.
Depending on applicable law, some of this information may identify or relate to a bodily function and may therefore be treated as consumer health data. Vocal Light does not use it to create a voiceprint, identify you, diagnose a condition, or intentionally infer disease, disability, treatment, medication use, reproductive health, or another medical condition.
2. Sources
The App obtains this information from:
- Your device microphone after you start a feature and grant microphone permission;
- Notes, ranges, categories, and other settings you select; and
- On-device calculations derived from those inputs.
Vocal Light does not buy consumer health data from data brokers or obtain it from advertisers, social networks, health-care providers, employers, schools, insurers, or public records.
3. Why the App processes it
The App processes consumer health data only to:
- Provide the live pitch, cents, note, range, and practice display you request;
- Maintain the current practice session on your device;
- Restore a comfortable-range setting you choose to save and use it to fit generated reference-note and chord registers; and
- Operate related safety, reset, and privacy controls.
The App does not process consumer health data for advertising, cross-app tracking, identity resolution, eligibility decisions, employment decisions, insurance decisions, sale, unrelated profiling, or training a shared machine-learning model.
4. On-device processing and storage
Live microphone samples are processed in bounded in-memory buffers. The App does not save them as a persistent recording. The live ring buffer and pitch-detector working samples are cleared when listening stops.
Current-session pitch frames and note shapes are held in memory and are cleared through Full Reset and when the App backgrounds or terminates. If the optional voice-and-range processing consent is current, a comfortable-range category and selected low and high notes may be stored in the App’s local container until you withdraw consent, clear saved practice data, use Delete Consumer Health Data, or delete the App. Moving the category slider immediately replaces those local range preferences; approving a manual or analyzer result replaces them again. If consent is not current, the App uses an unsaved default range for reference playback and does not load or retain a prior saved range.
The current App contains no developer-operated network service that receives consumer health data and does not intentionally transmit it to Vocal Light or integrate an external service to receive it. Because Vocal Light does not receive this device-local information, Vocal Light ordinarily cannot view, retrieve, export, correct, or remotely delete it for you. Apple services you separately enable, including device backup or diagnostics, may independently process device or App-container information under Apple’s policies and settings.
5. Sharing, sale, third parties, and affiliates
The current App does not sell or share consumer health data and does not integrate a third-party or affiliate recipient for those categories. There are therefore no categories of consumer health data sold or shared by Vocal Light through the App and no third-party or affiliate recipients to list.
The App uses Tonic for local music-theory calculations. That component operates inside the App and does not receive consumer health data as an external service.
Apple may independently process information through iOS, the App Store, your Apple Account, device backups, or diagnostics under Apple’s own terms and privacy policies. That independent Apple processing is not a disclosure by Vocal Light from an App-operated server.
If you voluntarily email support and include voice, range, symptom, or other consumer health information, Vocal Light and its email-routing and mailbox providers process that message to deliver, answer, secure, and document your request. This support-channel processing is separate from the App. Do not email voice recordings, vocal-range results, symptoms, or other sensitive health information. If you nevertheless include such information, it is used only to deliver, secure, answer, and document your request—not for analytics, advertising, profiling, or model training.
Vocal Light does not use location data or a geofence to identify or track a person seeking health-care services.
6. Your choice and consent
The welcome screen offers an optional, unchecked voice-and-range consent box and links to this notice as Voice & Range Privacy. Sections 1–5 describe the information, sources, purposes, and recipients; the controls below explain withdrawal and deletion. This choice is separate from accepting the Terms and Liability Waiver. Without consent, the App uses an unsaved default range. You can later allow processing in Legal & Privacy, where a fuller disclosure appears with its own unchecked box.
The separate opt-in covers the voice-category and comfortable-range choices you make or save, live microphone audio when you deliberately start a microphone feature, and information derived from that audio. Changing or saving a manual range, starting Sing, and starting range measurement require current consent. Microphone capture additionally requires a deliberate feature start and iOS microphone permission.
The App records consent grants and withdrawals on your device. Grants identify which presentation was used, its checkbox wording and text hash, this Policy’s version and hash, the described processing categories and purposes, recipients, withdrawal method, event time, and App version/build. The welcome presentation records the short checkbox and privacy-link label; the Settings presentation records the fuller disclosure. A record does not establish that you opened or read a link. A grant is not current if the required versions or hashes differ, or if its record is incomplete or inconsistent. Earlier records remain until you delete the processing-consent history. Vocal Light does not receive these records.
Microphone processing does not begin merely because the App is installed or because you provide that consent. The normal iOS microphone prompt is deferred until you deliberately start Sing or range measurement, and processing begins only after you also grant iOS permission. Vocal Light does not present another custom consent screen at that point.
You may withdraw consent for future voice-and-range processing at any time through Legal & Privacy → Withdraw Voice & Range Processing Consent. Withdrawal stops microphone processing, clears the current in-memory pitch timeline, removes the saved voice-range information, and returns range-aware playback to an unsaved default. You may allow processing again only from Legal & Privacy after reviewing the disclosure and checking its consent row. You may also stop a microphone feature or revoke microphone permission in iOS Settings. Withdrawal does not affect processing that lawfully occurred before withdrawal or the continuing effect of the Terms and Waiver.
Legal & Privacy → Delete Consumer Health Data removes the current session, saved voice-range information, and device-local voice-and-range consent history. It does not remove the separate Terms and Liability Waiver acceptance record. Deleting the App removes the active local App container; copies may remain temporarily in Apple-managed device or cloud backups under Apple’s settings, policies, and backup-retention behavior.
Vocal Light will not sell consumer health data or share it for a purpose beyond providing the feature you request without first obtaining any separate authorization required by applicable law.
7. Your rights and controls
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:
- Confirm whether Vocal Light collects, processes, shares, or sells consumer health data;
- Access consumer health data;
- Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent;
- Delete consumer health data; and
- Appeal a refusal to act on a request.
You can directly control device-local information by:
- Stopping live listening or range measurement;
- Using Withdraw Voice & Range Processing Consent in Legal & Privacy;
- Using Delete Consumer Health Data in Legal & Privacy to clear the current session, saved voice-range information, and voice-and-range consent history;
- Revoking microphone permission in iOS Settings;
- Using Full Reset to clear the current in-memory session;
- Using Clear Saved Practice Data in Legal & Privacy to clear supported range, pitch-color, and bookmark preferences; and
- Deleting the App to remove its active local container, subject to any Apple-managed backup copies.
Vocal Light will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
8. State privacy rights, requests, and appeals
Depending on the applicable definitions and circumstances, protections may arise under Washington’s My Health My Data Act (chapter 19.373 RCW), Nevada NRS 603A.400–603A.550, Connecticut’s consumer-health-data provisions, or other applicable laws. Their applicability depends on factors such as consumer location, the information involved, how it is used, and statutory exceptions—not only where Vocal Light’s provider is based. The controls described here are available in the App regardless of whether a particular state law applies.
For a consumer health data request, email support@vocallight.com and use the subject Consumer Health Data Request, or visit https://vocallight.com/support. To appeal a refusal, use the same address and the subject Privacy Appeal.
We may take reasonable steps to authenticate a request. We will respond without undue delay and within the shortest applicable statutory deadline, including 45 days where Washington, Nevada, or Connecticut law requires that response period, subject to any lawful extension. Where Nevada law applies to an authenticated deletion request, deletion will be completed within 30 days except to the extent a lawful backup-system delay applies. We will address an appeal within the legally required period and, if an appeal is denied, provide information about any available method to contact the appropriate regulator.
If a request concerns information that exists only in your App container, we will explain that Vocal Light has no server copy and cannot remotely retrieve or delete it. The controls in Section 7 remain available to you directly.
9. Security
Vocal Light uses data minimization, on-device processing, bounded memory, and iOS App-container isolation to reduce privacy risk. No software or storage method is perfectly secure. Device compromise, operating-system behavior, backups, or access to an unlocked device may affect locally stored information.
If we discover a security incident affecting consumer health data we possess, we will investigate it and provide notices required by applicable law.
10. Changes and contact
We will post material changes at this URL and update the effective date and version. Before processing additional consumer-health-data categories, using them for additional purposes, or disclosing them to additional recipients, Vocal Light will provide any required notice and obtain any required affirmative consent or authorization. No revision applies retroactively where applicable law prohibits it.
